LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, presented a cheque of Rs 300,000 to 14-year-old international taekwondo star Ayesha Ayaz on behalf of the Sports Board Punjab (SBP).
The cheque was presented during a meeting held at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday. In addition, the provincial minister personally awarded Rs 100,000 in cash to encourage the young athlete from Swat.
Vice Chairman Sports Board Punjab Malik Suleman, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muhammad Ali, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar praised Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s initiatives for the promotion of sports, stating that she strongly believes in nurturing young talent. “It is due to her vision and commitment that Pakistani female athletes are earning international recognition,” he said.
The minister described Ayesha Ayaz as not only the pride of Swat but of the entire nation. He noted that at the age of just 14, she has secured 11 international medals and more than 150 medals overall, making her Pakistan’s youngest and most successful international taekwondo athlete.
Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar expressed confidence that Ayesha has the potential to represent Pakistan at the Olympic Games, reaffirming that the patronage of talented athletes remains a top priority of the Punjab government.
He also paid tribute to Ayesha’s father and coach, M. Ayaz Khan, highlighting the dedication, trust, and sacrifice reflected in their bond. He acknowledged Ayaz Khan’s professional training and relentless efforts as the foundation of Ayesha’s remarkable achievements.
Ayesha Ayaz thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Provincial Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar for their encouragement and support, pledging to continue striving for greater success and to win more international titles for Pakistan.
