Lahore, Pakistan — Punjab’s Provincial Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan has taken swift action following the circulation of a disturbing video showing a man publicly assaulting his elderly parents in Sharqpur Sharif, Sheikhupura district.
The minister has directed the District Police Officer (DPO) of Sheikhupura to submit an immediate report on the incident. He has also instructed police to register a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the accused son, identified as Abdul Wahid, and to launch a strict legal investigation in line with Pakistani law.
In addition, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan ordered full security arrangements for the victimized parents to ensure their safety during the ongoing proceedings.
According to police sources, the mother of the accused has already lodged a written complaint at the local police station detailing the assault by her son.
Speaking on the matter, the Law Minister strongly condemned the incident, describing violence against parents as completely unacceptable and intolerable in any circumstances.
“Every effort will be made to deliver justice,” he said. “The rule of law will be upheld without exception, and no leniency will be shown in cases involving cruelty toward parents.”
The viral video, which has drawn widespread public outrage across social media in Pakistan, shows the son physically attacking his mother and father in a public setting in Sharqpur Sharif, a town approximately 65 kilometers from Lahore.
The provincial government’s rapid response underscores growing official concern over rising incidents of domestic violence and disrespect toward elders in parts of Punjab.
Further updates are awaited as police investigation and legal proceedings commence.
