LAHORE, Pakistan — Pakistan’s business community pledged Monday to strengthen support for the country’s overseas diaspora, recognizing their critical role in sustaining the economy through billions of dollars in annual remittances.
The commitment came during a high-level meeting between the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Pakistan Overseas Forum, a global network representing more than 10,000 Pakistani expatriates across 35 countries.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol told the visiting delegation that overseas Pakistanis have provided strong support to the nation’s economy through remittances, particularly during difficult economic periods.
“Even during difficult economic times, the role of the overseas community has been commendable, helping to stabilize the country’s foreign exchange reserves,” Saigol said, adding that the chamber will continue advocating for expatriate welfare.

Pakistan Overseas Forum Vice Chairman Ghulam Mustafa Diwan said the organization works to promote Pakistani expatriates’ welfare, project a positive image of Pakistan abroad, and create investment opportunities in the home country.
“Overseas Pakistanis are not only supporting the economy through remittances but are also serving as ambassadors of Pakistan in their respective countries,” Diwan said.
The forum leader emphasized his organization’s goal to work closely with government and business communities to resolve expatriate issues and facilitate investment in Pakistan.
Dedicated Support Desk Announced
Saigol announced plans to establish a dedicated Overseas Desk at the Lahore Chamber to quickly resolve expatriate issues and maintain effective communication with Pakistanis abroad.
The desk will provide assistance with business matters, investment, registration, and other related concerns, he said.
“If overseas Pakistanis bring their skills, investment, and experience to Pakistan, it will create new employment opportunities and promote industrial and commercial activities,” the LCCI president added.
LCCI Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Vice President Khurram Lodhi also attended the meeting, along with several executive committee members.
Both sides agreed to enhance coordination and cooperation to address expatriate concerns and strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
Pakistani expatriates sent home nearly USD 27 billion in remittances during the last fiscal year, providing a vital source of foreign currency for the import-dependent economy.
