LAHORE, Pakistan — Teachers must equip students with artificial intelligence and ChatGPT skills to prepare them for the modern workplace, Punjab University’s vice chancellor said Wednesday at a graduation ceremony for hundreds of education students.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali told graduates of the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research (IER) that modern technology has amplified rather than diminished the importance of teachers in shaping future generations.
“Teachers must provide education and training to their students in artificial intelligence and ChatGPT,” Dr. Ali said during the institute’s fifth graduation ceremony at Faisal Auditorium.
Beyond the Classroom
The vice chancellor emphasized that educators’ responsibilities extend beyond classroom instruction to include making graduates employable and shaping them into responsible citizens.
“Teachers are also responsible for making their graduates employable, as well as for shaping them into civilized citizens and good human beings,” he said.
Dr. Ali described the PU IER as Pakistan’s premier institution for teacher training, noting that modern technology has enhanced rather than replaced the educator’s role.
Addressing the graduating class, he advised students to prioritize caring for their parents and emphasized that true success is measured by knowledge and piety rather than wealth.
Quality Education as a Right
IER Director Prof. Dr. Abdul Qayyum Chaudhry said every child has the right not just to education, but to quality education under the guidance of the best teachers.
“Teachers are the guardians of the nation who nurture every generation,” Chaudhry said.
The ceremony awarded degrees to 127 M.Phil Education students, 15 B.Ed students, and 717 undergraduate students.
Chaudhry reported that IER faculty members published 60 research articles in national and international journals over the past year and participated in 30 conferences, workshops, and symposiums globally.
Dean of the Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid Farooq, university vice chancellors, department heads, faculty members, students, and parents attended the ceremony.
Dr. Ali presented degrees and medals to successful students at the conclusion of the event.
