ISLAMABAD: A suicide bombing at the gate of an imambargah in Islamabad’s Tralai area on Thursday injured more than 30 people, officials said, as authorities warned that the death toll could rise due to the critical condition of several victims.
The explosion shattered windows of nearby houses and caused widespread panic in the area. Security sources reported that the body of the suspected suicide attacker remained at the site as investigators began forensic examinations.
Police, rescue teams and law enforcement agencies swiftly cordoned off the area, while Islamabad Inspector General ordered emergency measures across the capital. High alert was declared at major hospitals, including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic Hospital and CDA Hospital.
According to district administration officials, 23 injured individuals were shifted to PIMS, while 11 were taken to Polyclinic Hospital. Several of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition. Emergency wards, orthopaedic units, burn centres and neurology departments have been fully activated.
The Bomb Disposal Squad is investigating the nature of the blast, while Rangers and Pakistan Army personnel have also been deployed at the scene. Authorities have completely sealed off the area as part of ongoing security operations.
Following instructions from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry visited PIMS Hospital, where he inquired after the injured and directed hospital authorities to ensure the provision of specialised medical care.
“The government is fully committed to providing all possible medical assistance to those injured in this attack,” Talal Chaudhry said.
