Lahore’s Orange Line Metro Train recorded its highest-ever passenger turnout on Basant, as thousands of residents took advantage of free travel offered on the mass transit system.
According to officials, around 295,000 passengers traveled on the Orange Line during the day, significantly higher than the usual daily ridership. On normal days, the metro train carries an average of 230,000 to 240,000 commuters.
Authorities said the decision to allow free travel added to the festive atmosphere of Basant, resulting in an increase of nearly 50,000 passengers in a single day.
A large number of commuters traveled from various parts of the city to Lahore’s central areas, with the underground Anarkali Station emerging as one of the busiest stations on the network.
Officials expect passenger numbers on the Orange Line to rise further over the next two days as Basant-related activities continue across the city.
