Deputy Commissioner Issues Official Notification
Rawalpindi — February 8, 2026
The Rawalpindi district administration has extended the imposition of Section 144 for an additional 15 days amid concerns over law and order. According to a notification issued today by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, the restrictions will remain in force until February 21, 2026.
Under the order, all forms of public gatherings, rallies, processions, demonstrations, and assemblies are completely prohibited across the city. The display of weapons, use of loudspeakers, and any other activities that may disturb public peace are also banned.
The administration stated that the extension was made on the recommendation of the District Intelligence Committee (DIC) to ensure the protection of life and property and to prevent any untoward incidents. The measure comes at a time when political protests and calls for demonstrations continue across the country, particularly in response to PTI and allied parties’ ongoing campaign against alleged rigging in the 2024 general elections.
Section 144 has been in effect in Rawalpindi for several months, with periodic extensions. Local sources indicate that these steps are part of maintaining high security alert status in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
