Lahore — February 8, 2026
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced an extension of Basant celebrations in Lahore by one additional day. The festivities, which were originally scheduled to conclude earlier, will now continue until 5:00 AM on February 9.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister said: “The people of Lahore have shown exemplary responsibility by fully complying with all safety protocols and SOPs during the Basant celebrations. They maintained peace, followed traffic guidelines, and cooperated with the administration. This extension is a reward for their responsible behavior.”
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that while the government respects the enthusiasm of citizens in celebrating their cultural festivals, public safety remains the top priority. She assured that law enforcement agencies, traffic police, and other relevant departments will remain on high alert until the conclusion of the extended period.
The decision comes as large crowds continue to participate in kite-flying, music, cultural events, and other Basant-related activities across the city. Basant, a traditional spring festival, has seen significant public participation this year.
The Chief Minister appealed to the public to continue exercising caution and responsibility during the final hours so the festival concludes peacefully and safely.
