LAHORE: A three-day Ramzan Bachat Festival will be held at Jilani Park from February 13 to 15 to provide quality food items at subsidised prices ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the Punjab Information Department announced on Wednesday.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Salma Butt, said the festival is being organised on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab to offer maximum relief to the public through affordable and safe food supplies.
She said the initiative aims to bring both relief and recreation under one roof, allowing families to purchase essential commodities in a safe and pleasant environment.
According to Salma Butt, all subordinate departments of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department will participate in the festival. These include the Punjab Food Authority, Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority, Food Directorate, Punjab Halal Authority, Sahulat Bazar Authority, Sahulat on Wheels, Consumer Protection Department, and the Punjab Institute of Agriculture Marketing.
More than 60 relief stalls will be set up, offering essential items such as flour, ghee, pulses, sugar, rice, fruits, vegetables, and other food products at discounts exceeding 20 percent, she said.
She added that special arrangements are being made to ensure food safety and quality, with Punjab Food Authority teams deployed for continuous monitoring of prices, supply, and hygiene standards at all stalls.
In addition to food stalls, the festival will also feature activities highlighting local culture, traditions, and regional colours, while ensuring a family-friendly and secure environment.
Salma Butt said the availability of affordable and quality essentials before Ramadan would provide much-needed relief to people from all walks of life, reiterating that strict oversight mechanisms would remain in place throughout the event.
