LAHORE: Secretary and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab Dr Ehsan Bhutta has said that Sufi shrines across the province serve as centres of spiritual guidance, peace, and cultural heritage, emphasising that their preservation and the provision of improved facilities for devotees remain a top priority of the Punjab government.
He said the shrine of Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar (RA) in Pakpattan is not only a symbol of spiritual enlightenment but also a priceless legacy of Islamic culture and Sufi traditions.
Dr Bhutta expressed these views during his visit to the shrine, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Pakpattan Asif Raza, Administrator Auqaf Zia-ur-Rehman, Director Projects Auqaf Rafiq Noor Wattoo, and other concerned officers.
During the visit, the Executive Engineer of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department briefed the secretary on ongoing development and renovation works at the shrine. Dr Bhutta inspected various sections, reviewed the pace and quality of the work, and issued directives to ensure timely completion while safeguarding the shrine’s architectural and spiritual integrity.
He directed the C&W Department to complete the construction and beautification of the main gate and its surrounding area by February 28, stressing that no compromise would be tolerated on quality standards.
The secretary was also informed that the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will complete the marble fitting inside the shrine and calligraphy work at the Mouj-e-Darya shrine by February 28, in line with the approved timeline.
Dr Bhutta offered Fateha and special prayers at the shrine for peace, prosperity, and stability in the country, as well as for national unity and harmony.
Reiterating the importance of Sufi heritage, he said shrines promote love, tolerance, and interfaith harmony, adding that preserving these sacred sites is a collective responsibility to pass this spiritual legacy on to future generations.
