LAHORE: A three-day international workshop on “Pathology of Companion Animals” concluded at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, bringing together local and international experts to strengthen diagnostic capacity and veterinary education in Pakistan.
The workshop was organized by the Department of Pathology at UVAS in collaboration with the Global Health Pathology Network (GHPN) and the Davis-Thompson Foundation, USA. The concluding ceremony was held at the university’s City Campus on Wednesday.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus presided over the ceremony and distributed certificates among participants and commemorative shields to resource persons.
The event was attended by Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Chairman Department of Pathology Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yasin Tipu, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad, Dr. Rana Fawad Hafeez, and renowned U.S.-based pathologists Dr. Jeremy Bearss and Dr. Kelsey Fiddes. Representatives from diagnostic laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, public and private sector institutions, postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty members were also present.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus commended the Department of Pathology for organizing the workshop on a highly relevant topic. He urged participants to apply their knowledge with dedication in their professional roles and to disseminate the expertise gained to strengthen veterinary education nationwide.
Highlighting the university’s academic standing, he noted that UVAS has secured a prominent position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and currently enrolls more than 10,000 students across various degree programs. He also shared that a vaccine to prevent foot-and-mouth disease is under development at the UVAS Ravi Campus in Pattoki.
Dean Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani said the workshop provided participants with valuable exposure to advanced pathology techniques and facilitated discussions on diagnostic challenges in animal diseases.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yasin Tipu thanked the sponsors for their financial support and appreciated the participation of experts from different parts of the world. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad outlined the workshop’s objectives, participant engagement, and the role of the Global Health Pathology Network.
The intensive workshop focused on enhancing diagnostic skills through interactive learning, clinical case discussions, and hands-on training in cytology, histopathology, necropsy techniques, and disease correlation in companion animals.
