LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) has become the first public sector university in Pakistan to introduce QR code-based fee transactions after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JS Bank to digitize its fee challan system.
Under the agreement, the university will implement Zindigi’s Raast Dynamic QR solution, enabling students to pay tuition fees and other dues digitally through mobile banking applications. The initiative is aimed at streamlining financial operations and accelerating the university’s digital transformation.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Vice Chancellor’s Office and was attended by PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, DG Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq, Chairman Hall Council Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akber Khan, Treasurer Tasneem Kamran, Additional Treasurer Rao Tahir, State Bank representative Bilal, and senior officials from JS Bank’s digital platform Zindigi.
According to officials, the Raast Dynamic QR system will facilitate real-time payment processing, reduce manual handling of paper challans, and enhance transparency and efficiency in university financial transactions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali said the university is committed to adopting modern technologies to improve administrative efficiency and student facilitation. He noted that digitizing fee payments would make the process faster, more secure, and more convenient for students and their families.
“This initiative supports our broader vision of promoting a cashless and paperless campus, minimizing queues at banks, and streamlining financial operations,” he said.
Representatives of JS Bank said that Zindigi’s Raast Dynamic QR is a secure, State Bank–compliant digital payment solution that enables instant interbank transfers. They added that the collaboration would enhance financial inclusion and provide students with seamless access to digital payment channels.
Both sides expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen digital infrastructure at the university and set a precedent for other public institutions across the country.
