Lahore/Sheikhupura,— Sarbjit Kaur, the Indian woman who converted to Islam and adopted the name Noor Fatima after marrying a Pakistani man, has been allowed to return to her husband’s home in Sheikhupura. Authorities from the Evacuee Trust Property Board granted permission, leading to her release from Lahore’s Dar-ul-Aman (women’s shelter home) last night.
Noor Fatima arrived in Pakistan on November 4, 2025, as part of a Sikh pilgrim group attending Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary celebrations. Her visa expired on November 13, but she chose not to return to India. She converted to Islam upon arrival and married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura, in a marriage of choice.
The couple had been in contact via social media since 2016. After overstaying her visa and refusing deportation, she was placed in protective custody at Dar-ul-Aman. Her lawyer, Ahmad Hasan Pasha, confirmed that legal documents (including the nikahnama) and her voluntary statements supported the decision to halt deportation proceedings.
Nasir Hussain expressed happiness in brief media comments, stating he is delighted to be united with his wife. The case highlights cross-border personal choices amid diplomatic sensitivities between India and Pakistan, marking a resolution where Noor Fatima can now live with her husband in Pakistan.
