LAHORE, Pakistan: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship social welfare initiative, the “Dhee Rani Program,” facilitated the collective marriage of 100 couples in Pakpattan, provincial officials said on Wednesday.
The mass wedding ceremony, held at a private marquee, was attended by Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Sohail Shaukat Butt as chief guest, along with senior administrative and police officials, members of the provincial assembly, and local dignitaries.
Under the program, each bride received Rs. 200,000 as financial assistance through ATM cards, along with wedding attire for both brides and grooms. A reception meal was also arranged for the couples and their families.
Addressing the ceremony, Butt said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen social protection and support financially vulnerable families. He described the program as part of broader welfare measures aimed at easing the financial burden associated with marriage expenses.
Officials stated that the “Dhee Rani Program” is one of the largest collective marriage initiatives launched in the province, designed to provide financial assistance and social support to deserving families.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding welfare initiatives and strengthening social safety nets across Punjab.
Families of the newly married couples expressed appreciation for the support, saying the assistance would help them begin their married lives with greater financial stability.
