LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab government has taken steps to resolve a long-standing housing issue for members of the Housing Foundation by facilitating access to residential plots, officials said on Wednesday.
The initiative follows directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has emphasized addressing pending housing matters and expanding access to planned residential facilities.
During a meeting chaired by Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, officials were informed that approximately 15,000 members would be accommodated in the first phase through the procurement of plots from private developers. Around 30 developers have reportedly expressed interest in participating in the scheme.
Authorities said the allotment process will be conducted on a merit-based and transparent framework to ensure quality housing options. Eligible members will be able to take possession of plots after a 30 percent initial payment, with the remaining amount payable in instalments under agreed terms.
“Providing relief to members who have been awaiting allotment is an important step toward restoring confidence and ensuring fair access to housing,” Mengal said.
Managing Director of the Housing Foundation, Umar Alvi, briefed participants on engagement with private developers and the proposed procurement strategy. The meeting was attended by board members and senior officials, including Salute Saeed, Kausar Khan, and Aftab Ahmed.
Officials said, subject to procedural completion, the allotment process is expected to move forward in the coming months. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader policy focus on addressing housing shortages and strengthening mechanisms for delivering planned residential facilities across Punjab.
