LAHORE — Rapidly evolving medical technologies and emerging treatment trends are offering new hope to patients suffering from kidney diseases, enabling young doctors to enhance patient care and serve humanity more effectively, health experts said on Saturday.
The remarks were made by Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, while presiding over a one-day training workshop on peritoneal dialysis organized by the Department of Nephrology at Lahore General Hospital.
The workshop was attended by MS LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Head of Nephrology Prof. Dr. Abad-ur-Rehman, Dr. Yasir Hussain, Dr. Rosheena Anjum, Dr. Qurrat-ul-Ain, Dr. Sajid Iqbal and a large number of postgraduate doctors from across Punjab.
On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Byonyks and KBB to promote collaboration in advanced dialysis machines and innovative techniques, aimed at modernizing renal care services.
Medical experts provided hands-on training on the latest peritoneal dialysis techniques — a procedure performed through the abdominal cavity instead of conventional blood-based dialysis. They noted that the initiative marks a significant step forward in medical education and will play a key role in improving patients’ quality of life.
Prof. Dr. Abad-ur-Rehman highlighted that conventional dialysis is often exhausting and complicated for patients, whereas modern peritoneal dialysis technology has made the procedure safer, simpler and more accessible, allowing patients to benefit from treatment aligned with international standards.
Speaking to the media, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal said that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, transformative measures are being taken to ensure the provision of quality healthcare services at people’s doorsteps. In line with the Government of Punjab’s vision, he added, state-of-the-art medical facilities are being ensured at Lahore General Hospital.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal distributed shields and certificates among participants and commended Prof. Dr. Abad-ur-Rehman and his team for successfully organizing the training session.
