LAHORE — A spiritual kirtan ceremony was held at the historic gurdwara of Aitchison College to commemorate the completion of 140 years of the institution, bringing together members of the Sikh community, students and faculty in a celebration of faith and interfaith harmony.
Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora attended the ceremony as the guest of honour. The event was also attended by Dr. Tarnjit Singh Battalia, a research scientist from Ohio State University, and Dr. S.M. Turab Hussain, Principal of Aitchison College.
The historic gurdwara, constructed in 1910, had its foundation laid by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, Arora noted while addressing the gathering.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Singh Arora said the bond between the Sikh community and Pakistan is “as strong and enduring as flesh and nails.” He reiterated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has consistently emphasized that minorities are the “crown of her head,” adding that the provincial government has demonstrated this commitment through practical measures.
He highlighted the Sikh community’s significant contributions to Punjab’s culture, history and social values, noting that the teachings of Sikhism promote tolerance, respect and brotherhood. He assured that every citizen in Punjab enjoys full religious freedom and protection, regardless of faith.
Arora further stated that the Sikh community celebrates its beliefs, rituals and festivals with complete freedom and devotion, with the government providing necessary facilities. He said the steps taken by the provincial administration reflect its commitment to interfaith harmony and the protection of minority rights.
The ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and representatives of the Sikh community, presenting a vibrant display of unity and mutual respect.
