Karachi, Pakistan – February 14, 2026: Unknown burglars broke into a gold jeweler’s shop in Ghanchi Market, Malir City, Karachi, overnight and escaped with the entire safe containing more than half a kilogram (over 500 grams) of gold and PKR 500,000 in cash.
According to police and the shop owner, Iqbal, the stolen gold is valued at approximately PKR 2.75 crore (based on current market rates), while the owner claims the total loss exceeds PKR 50 million. The burglary was discovered in the morning when the shop opened, prompting immediate police response.
Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the site, and three security guards from the market have been taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and other leads to identify the suspects.
This incident follows a pattern of similar burglaries targeting jewelry shops in Karachi recently, including one in Saeedabad and another in Korangi area just days earlier, where valuables worth crores were stolen.
Local traders have expressed alarm over inadequate security in busy commercial areas, demanding enhanced patrols and better safeguards. Police say investigations into the linked cases are ongoing, with arrests expected soon.
