Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has arrived in Colombo to watch the high-voltage Pakistan-India encounter, with several important meetings scheduled on the sidelines of the match.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister Janithya Rawan Kodithuwakku and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Faheem Ul Aziz. Senior PCB officials Sameer Ahmed, Salman Naseer, and Aamir Mir are also accompanying him.
Sources said the PCB chairman will meet the national squad ahead of the match to boost players’ morale. He is also expected to hold discussions with heads of various cricket boards on bilateral and multilateral matters.
It is likely that Mohsin Naqvi and Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), will watch the Pakistan-India match together. Other senior ICC officials and representatives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are also expected to be present in Colombo.
Sri Lanka Cricket has invited officials from multiple cricket boards, and the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board is also expected to attend.
The ICC has invited heads of cricket boards from five major Asian cricketing nations — Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka — to encourage dialogue aimed at easing recent tensions.
Analysts believe these interactions, taking place alongside the high-profile match, could carry significance beyond cricket, potentially influencing the broader regional diplomatic environment.
