Police authorities in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province remained on high alert during Christian worship and prayer services held in churches across the region, including the provincial capital Lahore, officials said.
The heightened security measures were implemented on the instructions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem, who directed senior officers to strengthen security arrangements at churches and other sensitive locations.
According to police officials, Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) were instructed to personally supervise security deployments. Additional personnel and snipers were deployed at churches deemed sensitive, while specialized units including the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force carried out enhanced patrols in surrounding areas.
The IG also ordered officers and personnel to maintain strict vigilance against potential security threats and continue search and sweep operations around churches, Christian neighborhoods and other vulnerable sites.
Abdul Kareem further called on religious scholars, members of the Christian community and local peace committees to promote interfaith harmony and cooperation to ensure peaceful observance of religious activities.
Pakistan has previously implemented heightened security during major religious events, particularly to safeguard minority communities.
