Police authorities in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab said they have intensified operations against proclaimed offenders, court absconders and habitual criminals as part of a province-wide security crackdown this year.
According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, a total of 16,881 proclaimed offenders have been arrested so far in 2026 across the province, including in the provincial capital Lahore. Of these, 5,497 were classified as Category-A offenders, while 11,384 fell under Category-B.
Authorities also apprehended 5,355 court absconders during the same period, including 1,161 Category-A and 4,194 Category-B individuals. In addition, 2,543 habitual criminals were taken into custody, comprising 777 Category-A and 1,766 Category-B offenders.
In Lahore alone, police arrested 3,057 proclaimed offenders, 2,104 court absconders and 787 habitual criminals during the ongoing campaign.
Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem praised the performance of police teams involved in the operations and directed officials to further accelerate and strengthen efforts to apprehend offenders across the province.
Police officials said the crackdown is part of broader measures aimed at improving law and order and ensuring the implementation of court directives.
