The government of Pakistan’s eastern Punjab has begun distributing financial assistance to workers under the Ramazan Nighaban Package and the Maryam Nawaz Ration Card initiative, officials said on Sunday.
Under the scheme, the Punjab Social Security Department is providing Rs 10,000 to registered workers across the province to support their families during the holy month of Ramazan.
Commissioner Punjab Social Security Zulfiqar Ali Kharal said more than 1.2 million registered workers are expected to benefit from the program. He added that, on the special instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the assistance amount was increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 for Ramazan.
Workers will have the option to receive the amount either in the form of ration supplies or as cash, depending on their needs and convenience, Kharal said.
Officials stated that field officers are working to ensure transparent and timely distribution of funds. A dedicated Maryam Nawaz Ration Card Cell has also been established to facilitate workers and address queries. Biometric verification of beneficiaries is underway across the province to ensure that assistance reaches eligible recipients.
Kharal said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to providing relief to low-income workers and their families during Ramazan.
