Punjab’s Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Bilal Yasin, said the provincial government has invested billions of rupees to restore and beautify the historic Walled City of Lahore, describing the initiative as part of a broader urban renewal strategy.
Speaking during a Khuli Kachehri (open court) held in his constituency in Lahore, Yasin listened to residents’ complaints and issued on-the-spot directives to address civic issues. Local residents expressed appreciation for ongoing development work in the constituency and the Walled City area, according to officials.
Yasin said that large-scale infrastructure and restoration projects in inner Lahore were once considered unfeasible. “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has spent billions of rupees to enhance the beauty and accessibility of inner Lahore,” he said.
He added that the revival of cultural events, including the Basant festival, as well as the organization of Ramadan facilitation bazaars and food festivals ahead of the holy month, were aimed at providing both economic relief and cultural engagement for citizens.
The minister said the provincial government’s development agenda includes initiatives in education, information technology, infrastructure and healthcare, alongside financial relief measures such as easy installment plans and interest-free loans across districts.
Yasin said development projects would continue as part of what he described as an ongoing commitment to public service and urban improvement in Punjab.
