Vienna, February 16, 2026 – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour upon his arrival at Austria’s Federal Chancellery on Monday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Welcomed by Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, the visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Austria. The ceremony included the playing of both national anthems, followed by Prime Minister Sharif reviewing the honour guard alongside Chancellor Stocker.
The leaders introduced their delegations and proceeded to hold tête-à-tête discussions, followed by delegation-level talks aimed at reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral ties, including trade, investment, and cooperation in various sectors.
Prime Minister Sharif also signed the guest book at the Chancellery, expressing hopes for strengthened partnerships.
Accompanying the Prime Minister are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to PM Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch.
This visit is the first by a Pakistani Prime Minister to Austria in over three decades, since Nawaz Sharif’s trip in 1992.
