KASUR: Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has said that politics rooted in hostility toward state institutions, particularly the armed forces, is unacceptable and detrimental to national cohesion.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the “Malik Muhammad Ali Khan Library” at the Kasur District Bar Association, the Speaker stated that even after challenges such as Bunyan-un-Marsoos, any political narrative centered on confrontation with state institutions cannot be supported. He asserted that the Pakistani nation cannot be intimidated and will continue to stand firm against all challenges.
He noted that Pakistan is currently facing both internal and external pressures, especially in the context of the security situation along the western border. Despite these challenges, he said, the nation and its security institutions have demonstrated unity and resilience. Undermining Parliament, the judiciary, or the armed forces, he added, is not in the national interest, stressing that political stability remains essential for ensuring economic and administrative stability.
During the ceremony, the Speaker formally inaugurated the “Malik Muhammad Ali Khan Library” and laid the foundation stone of the Ladies’ Bar Room. Recalling his early days in legal practice, he shared that when he began his career, the bar comprised nearly 300 lawyers — a number that has now expanded to approximately 3,000. He observed that while basic facilities were once scarce and lawyers worked under modest conditions, substantial progress has since been achieved.
Emphasizing the importance of institutional harmony, he underscored that a strong and coordinated relationship between the bar and the bench is vital for the effective functioning of the justice system. Announcing plans to transform the Kasur District Bar into a model bar, he assured that key concerns, including parking and infrastructure issues, would be addressed.
He directed the bar leadership to submit a comprehensive funding proposal within two weeks, assuring that the necessary funds would be allocated within the current fiscal year. The Speaker further stressed the need to curb unnecessary expenditures so that resources can be redirected toward the welfare and professional development of the legal community.
Concluding his address, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan highlighted that empowering local governments is essential to restoring public trust in the state. He remarked that a limited administrative structure cannot effectively manage the affairs of a large province, and strengthening local governance is indispensable for improving overall governance and service delivery.
