LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has activated 74 Sahulat Bazaars across the province, converting them into fully operational Ramadan Bazaars ahead of the holy month to provide subsidized essential commodities to citizens.
The initiative has been launched on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with the aim of extending maximum financial relief to the public during Ramadan. Comprehensive arrangements have been finalized under the supervision of Chairman Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority Muhammad Afzal Khokhar.
Director General Naveed Rafaqat Ahmad conducted surprise inspections of several bazaars in Lahore and Ferozewala to assess administrative and operational measures. Markets in Township, Madina Market, Madar-e-Millat, Nishtar Colony, Barki, Shahdara and Ferozewala were reviewed to ensure quality control, sanitation standards, security arrangements, and the functionality of CCTV monitoring systems.
According to officials, 16 essential commodities are being offered at prices up to 10 percent lower than the DC rates. A 10-kilogram flour bag is available at Rs850, while sugar is being sold at Rs140 per kilogram.
To ensure transparency and efficiency, a provincial control room has been established for continuous monitoring of Ramadan Bazaars and prompt redressal of public complaints. Leaves of staff across the province have been cancelled, and senior officers have been directed to conduct regular field inspections to maintain operational standards.
Citizens can purchase subsidized items through ration cards and Ramadan Nigehban cards. Additionally, free home delivery within a five-kilometer radius has been introduced to improve accessibility. Special Senior Citizen Camps are also being reviewed across the province to facilitate elderly shoppers.
The initiative underscores the provincial government’s commitment to affordability, transparency, and improved service delivery during Ramadan.
