LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Energy Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said providing affordable, high-quality and uninterrupted electricity remains the core agenda of the Government of Punjab, as the department reviewed the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26 in detail.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Energy Department, the minister said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz envisions modern, environment-friendly and reliable energy access for every household and institution across the province. He stressed that transparency, merit and timely completion would be ensured at every stage of implementation.
Secretary Energy Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Additional Secretary Majid Iqbal and senior officials briefed the minister on progress, governance safeguards and timelines for ongoing and upcoming projects.

Officials informed the meeting that several projects are targeted for completion by June 2026. Under the Free Solar Panel Scheme, 67,184 solar systems have been installed division-wise. The Murala, Pakpattan and Chianwali projects have been completed, while the Deg Outfall project is expected to conclude by December 2026.
The pre-qualification process for the Biogas Fertilizer Plant at Gujar Colony has been finalized. Of 256 higher secondary schools planned for solarization, 50 are slated for completion this year. In Okara’s Tube Wells Solarization Scheme, machinery delivery for 12 of 17 tube wells has been completed.
The contract for upgrading the Solar PV Module Testing Lab at Kala Shah Kaku Campus has also been awarded. Solarization of major public buildings — including Central Jail Kot Lakhpat, Police Lines Qila Gujar Singh Lahore, Lahore College for Women University, University of Home Economics, Bureau of Statistics and the Higher Education Department — is expected to be completed by June 2026.
Briefings were also presented on green energy projects, the Remote Monitoring System and the proposed Electric Power Regulatory Authority Punjab.
Directives issued
The minister directed that:
Modern, technology-based equipment be used in all projects;
Robust backup systems be ensured to prevent supply disruptions;
Officers present innovative, practical proposals to enhance effectiveness;
Remote monitoring be further strengthened; and
Efforts to make Punjab self-sufficient through green energy be accelerated.
Reaffirming the department’s commitment, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said all projects would be completed within stipulated timelines in the spirit of public service, with sustained efforts to address the energy crisis.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director Punjab Power Development Board Saniya Owais, CEO PPDCL Adnan Mudassar and other relevant officials.
