VIENNA (Special Correspondent): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi at the Vienna International Center on Tuesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch attended the meeting.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for IAEA’s role in promoting the responsible use of nuclear technology in cancer diagnosis and treatment, agriculture, nuclear power generation, and industrial applications. He emphasized that Pakistan is utilizing nuclear technology responsibly across these critical sectors.
Commending the strong partnership between Pakistan and IAEA, the Prime Minister noted that Pakistan not only benefits from the Agency’s Technical Cooperation Programme but also actively contributes by providing experts and hosting international training programs for IAEA member states.

Director General Grossi acknowledged Pakistan’s expertise and experience in the peaceful use of nuclear technology. He praised the high caliber of Pakistani engineers, scientists, and technical experts, recognizing Pakistan’s commendable role in nuclear security and safety.
Grossi further stated that Pakistan is ideally positioned to assist other IAEA member countries in the peaceful application of nuclear technology. He expressed hope for Pakistan’s active participation in the Nuclear Energy Summit to be held in France in March 2026.
Following the meeting, an agreement was signed designating the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), Lahore, as an IAEA Collaborating Center. Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Director General Grossi signed the agreement on behalf of Pakistan and IAEA respectively.
