Islamabad, February 20, 2026: Fresh and alarming evidence has surfaced linking recent terrorist attacks inside Pakistan to Afghan territory, raising serious questions about cross-border militant activity and the role of Afghan soil in facilitating violence against Pakistan.
According to Pakistani security sources, the suicide bomber who carried out a deadly attack on the Malangi Post in Bajaur district on February 16 was an Afghan national. The attacker has been identified as Ahmad, also known as Qari Abdullah Abu Zar, a resident of Afghanistan’s Balkh province. Investigators have further revealed that the attacker had previously served as a member of the Afghan Taliban’s Special Forces — a revelation that has deepened concerns in Islamabad.
In a separate but equally troubling development, security officials have disclosed that the suicide bomber responsible for the Islamabad attack on February 6 had also received training in Afghanistan before carrying out the assault in Pakistan’s capital.
Pakistani security sources say these findings confirm a pattern of cross-border terrorist planning, training, and infiltration, with the threads of multiple recent attacks tracing back to Afghan territory.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns with Afghanistan’s interim Taliban government regarding the use of Afghan soil by militant groups targeting Pakistan, but officials say little concrete action has been taken in response.
The revelations come at a time of already heightened tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, and are likely to further strain relations between the two neighboring countries.
