A significant earthquake rattled several cities across Pakistan on Friday evening, coinciding with Iftar time, sending thousands of residents rushing out of their homes in panic.
According to ARY News, the earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale. The Seismological Centre confirmed that the epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, with a depth of 73 kilometres.
Tremors were widely felt across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Mardan, Lower Dir, Malakand, Chitral, Sargodha, and surrounding areas, as well as Khyber, Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal, Tirah, and Azad Kashmir.
Frightened residents abandoned their homes and gathered in open spaces to ensure their safety. Several families also temporarily paused their Iftar meals to move to safer locations.
