Islamabad, February 2026 — Pakistani security forces launched a large-scale joint operation across five districts, detaining over 100 illegally residing Afghan nationals and suspects, officials confirmed.
The operation was conducted simultaneously in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal, involving more than 2,000 personnel from the police, Rangers, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and multiple intelligence agencies.
During the operation, extensive search campaigns were carried out across mosques, markets, and residential areas. Authorities confirmed that strict security measures are in place at 449 places of worship and other sensitive locations throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Officials stated that the detained individuals are being screened for valid documentation, and those found to be residing illegally will face deportation following due legal process.
The crackdown is part of Pakistan’s ongoing nationwide campaign against illegal immigrants, particularly Afghan nationals. The government has consistently maintained that undocumented foreign residents pose a serious risk to public order and national security.
Human rights organisations have previously called on Pakistani authorities to ensure that deportation procedures are carried out in accordance with international law and humanitarian obligations.
