LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Services Department responded to 1,201 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab during the past 24 hours, resulting in 11 fatalities and 1,450 injuries.
According to official data, 665 critically injured victims were shifted to various hospitals, while 785 people with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue Medical Teams, helping to ease the burden on healthcare facilities.
The majority of accidents — 76 percent — involved motorbikes, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline to curb the rising number of road crashes.
The analysis further revealed that among the victims were 814 drivers, 66 underage drivers, 148 pedestrians, and 499 passengers.
District-wise statistics show that Lahore reported the highest number of incidents, with 232 crashes affecting 291 people, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list. It was followed by Faisalabad with 98 crashes and 110 victims, while Multan ranked third with 91 RTCs affecting 100 individuals.
In total, 1,461 victims were affected, including 1,199 males and 262 females. Age-wise breakdown shows that 276 victims were under 18 years of age, 786 were between 18 and 40 years, and 399 were above 40.
Data further indicates that 1,262 motorbikes, 91 auto-rickshaws, 145 motorcars, 31 vans, nine passenger buses, 47 trucks, and 66 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported accidents.
Authorities have reiterated the need for greater public awareness, adherence to traffic regulations, and strict implementation of road safety measures to prevent further loss of lives.
