LAHORE: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a lady doctor, Dr. Mehwish, who was allegedly killed by the family members of a patient in Kohat.
In an emergency meeting held at PMA House, the association expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The meeting was chaired by PMA Lahore President Prof. Dr. Shahid Malik and attended by senior members including Prof. Dr. Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Iram Shahzadi, Dr. Wajid Ali, Dr. Bushra Haq, Dr. Izhar Chaudhry, Dr. Kamran Saeed, Dr. Tanveer Anwar, Dr. Nadir Khan, Dr. Ahmed Naeem Akhtar, and Dr. Maryam Fatima.
The participants strongly demanded immediate arrest and strict legal action against those responsible for the heinous crime. They expressed complete solidarity with the medical community and warned that rising incidents of violence against healthcare professionals are creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity across the country.
PMA officials stated that the tragic killing once again highlights the growing vulnerability of doctors and medical staff in Pakistan. They emphasized that ensuring the safety of healthcare workers is essential for the functioning of the public health system.
The meeting unanimously urged the government to immediately implement the Hospital Security Act to provide effective security measures in hospitals. The association cautioned that failure to ensure protection for doctors and medical staff could cause irreparable damage to the country’s already strained public healthcare system.
