Lahore: The School Education Department Punjab has decided to outsource an additional 2,735 public schools across various districts of the province to the private sector.
According to official sources, the scrutiny process for individuals and organizations from the private sector interested in managing these schools will be completed by March 31.
Authorities say the move aims to improve performance in schools facing low enrollment and limited resources, while enhancing administrative efficiency and academic standards. Selected private operators will be assigned targets related to teacher appointments, facility improvements, and student enrollment growth.
The decision has drawn mixed reactions. Some education experts describe it as a reform-oriented step, while teachers’ associations have expressed concerns regarding job security and the future of existing staff.
