ISLAMABAD — Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif launched a scathing attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, asserting that while the party is riddled with thousands of internal disagreements, there is one point of rare unanimity among its ranks — that Imran Khan must remain behind bars.
Targeting the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in particular, Khawaja Asif said it was deeply ironic that the PTI-led provincial administration was making tall claims about forming a so-called “liberation force” for Imran Khan’s release, yet consistently refused to raise its voice against the rising tide of terrorism devastating the very province it governs.
The minister also took strong exception to what he described as the KP government’s deliberate absence from the funeral prayers of martyred security personnel and civilians killed in terrorist attacks, calling the pattern deeply disrespectful and politically motivated.
“A party that lacks the courage to condemn terrorists operating in its own backyard has no credibility when it comes to matters of national security,” Khawaja Asif stated bluntly.
The remarks are expected to further intensify the already charged political atmosphere between the ruling coalition and PTI, as tensions over Imran Khan’s ongoing incarceration and the security situation in KP continue to dominate national discourse.
