KARACHI — In a bid to tighten security at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, the Sindh provincial government has imposed a restriction barring more than two individuals from accompanying a passenger during pick-up or drop-off, citing serious concerns over overcrowding and security vulnerabilities.
Addressing a high-level security meeting, the Provincial Home Minister stated that the excessive rush at the airport had become a significant challenge for law enforcement and security agencies, making it imperative to limit unnecessary footfall in and around the terminal premises.
“Security at the airport must be made foolproof and that requires strict control over who enters the vicinity,” the minister said, stressing that the new restriction would be enforced immediately by airport administration and relevant authorities.
The meeting also took up the issue of prison security, with the Home Minister directing authorities to ensure the immediate availability of “Talash App” devices across all jails in the province. The app-based scanning technology is aimed at enhancing surveillance and making search operations inside prisons more effective and systematic.
Officials stated that both measures form part of a broader provincial security strategy designed to modernise law enforcement infrastructure and eliminate loopholes that could be exploited by criminal or terrorist elements.
Authorities have been directed to submit a compliance report within the stipulated timeframe.
