UNITED NATIONS, NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council has called an emergency session tonight to address the rapidly deteriorating situation involving Iran, as military tensions between Tehran, Washington, and Tel Aviv continue to escalate at an alarming pace.
Member states of the Security Council agreed to convene the urgent meeting in response to Iran’s retaliatory strikes targeting American military installations across the Arab world, following US and Israeli attacks on Iranian territory that killed more than 70 people, including 51 schoolgirls.
The emergency session is expected to assess the current threat to regional and global peace, with discussions likely to focus on immediate de-escalation measures and diplomatic pathways to prevent further conflict. The European Union has already called on all parties to reduce tensions and return to dialogue.
The meeting comes amid growing international alarm, including an incident in Abu Dhabi where a Pakistani national was killed by debris from an Iranian missile intercepted by UAE air defences.
The world watches closely as the Security Council convenes what could prove to be one of its most consequential emergency sessions in recent memory.
