LAHORE: A high-level video-link security review meeting was held at the Central Police Office under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem to assess and strengthen security arrangements across the province in light of the prevailing border situation and the second Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
The IG Punjab directed that a high security alert be imposed across the entire province, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, with immediate reinforcement of security at mosques, places of worship, markets, business centres, police check-posts, important installations, Chinese and other foreign embassies, and all sensitive locations.
He instructed RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs to personally inspect security arrangements at mosques, places of worship, and key installations, and directed enhanced security at inter-provincial police check-posts, police stations, and law enforcement offices and buildings. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety of Chinese experts and foreign nationals at their residences, workplaces, and during movement. A comprehensive security plan is to be formulated in close coordination with police officers, the Special Branch, CTD, and relevant security agencies.
The IG Punjab ordered the acceleration of the campaign to repatriate all illegally residing foreign nationals, including Afghan nationals, and directed that the scope of intelligence-based search, sweep, and combing operations be extended to inter-provincial border areas. Continuous monitoring of markets, business centres, and sensitive locations through Safe Cities cameras was also ordered, along with strict enforcement of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab on drone usage.
He stated that search and sweep operations against elements of Fitna-al-Khawarij and Fitna-al-Hindustan will continue without interruption, and that close surveillance must be maintained on terrorists, miscreants, and suspicious individuals to protect the country’s internal borders. He made it clear that every officer and soldier of Punjab Police stands shoulder to shoulder with the brave armed forces to protect the country and the nation, and that security, law and order, and relief operations will be ensured in any emergency situation.
The IG Punjab also appealed to citizens not to give heed to fabricated rumours and unverified messages circulating on social media platforms.
The meeting was attended via video link by CCPO Lahore, Additional IG South Punjab, Additional IG CTD, Additional IG Special Branch, and all RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs. Additional IG PHP Faisal Ali Raja, DIG IT Mansoor-ul-Haq, AIG Operations, AIG Development, and AIG Admin were present in person at the meeting.
