Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday chaired a crucial meeting of parliamentary party leaders and representatives at the Prime Minister’s House, where an in-camera briefing was conducted on the rapidly evolving regional security situation.
Participants were comprehensively briefed on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border tensions, the ongoing conflict involving Iran, escalating hostilities in the Middle East and the Gulf region, and Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagements in response to these developments. Sources indicated that the briefing also covered progress on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, currently underway against terrorist hideouts along the western frontier.
The session, which lasted over two hours beginning at 11:30 AM, was attended by prominent leaders including Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Notably, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf abstained from participating in the meeting.
Parliamentary leaders from all attending parties spoke openly and freely on the regional situation and Pakistan’s strategic response. All participants strongly underscored the critical need for national unity, consensus, and solidarity in the face of current challenges.
The participants lauded Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability, stressing that these efforts must be further intensified. They also presented their recommendations for the future course of action.
All attending leaders reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorism from Pakistani soil, describing it as a collective national obligation.
The participants also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s initiative to take the entire political leadership into confidence in the larger national interest, expressing gratitude for his inclusive and transparent approach during this critical period.
