Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has strongly rejected the recent hike in petroleum prices, calling it the largest single increase in the country’s history.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that raising petrol prices by Rs55 per litre in one go has broken the backs of ordinary citizens. He warned that this decision, taken during the holy month of Ramadan, will dampen the Eid celebrations of the poor and middle classes who are already struggling under the burden of inflation.
The PPP leader stated that the government should have announced an alternative relief package for the public before imposing such a massive price hike. He further criticised the government for bypassing parliament on such critical matters, saying that issues of this magnitude — including regional tensions and fuel price increases — required parliamentary consultation, which was completely ignored.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf made it clear that the PPP will not accept this increase under any circumstances and will vigorously raise the issue inside parliament to hold the government accountable on this public interest matter.
