Two separate terrorist attacks struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts on Saturday, killing at least four people and wounding more than twenty others, authorities confirmed. The attacks — targeting police personnel and a peace committee member’s family — occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, heightening concerns over renewed militant activity in the region.
Wana Bombing: Police Convoy Targeted at Iftar Time
The first explosion occurred in Wana, the administrative headquarters of South Waziristan, shortly before Iftar. District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Tahir Shah said an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated near a police mobile patrol van, killing two police officers and one civilian. Ten others were injured, including six police personnel. Hospital officials warned that six of the wounded were in critical condition. Witnesses said the area was crowded at the time, with residents shopping for Iftar meals when the blast occurred.
Lakki Marwat: Drone or IED Used Against Peace Committee Family
The second attack took place in Lakki Marwat, where an explosion ripped through a shop belonging to the brother of a local peace committee member — suggesting a deliberate targeting of those who cooperate with security forces. One person was killed and several others were wounded. Police said they are investigating whether the attack was carried out using a planted IED or a quadcopter-mounted device, a tactic that has been increasingly observed in the region.
Security has been reinforced across both districts following the attacks, and law enforcement agencies have launched joint search operations to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The attacks come amid an already tense security environment in KP, where militant groups have intensified operations in recent months. No group has claimed responsibility as yet.
