Wuhan, China – The Pakistan Navy on Saturday launched its third Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Mangro (Desig), at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd, Shuangliu Base in Wuhan.
The launching ceremony was attended by senior Pakistani and Chinese officials, with Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects-2), serving as the chief guest.
In his remarks, Vice Admiral Samad underscored the growing importance of maritime security amid evolving regional geo-strategic dynamics. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to safeguarding national interests and fostering a cooperative maritime environment. Highlighting the advanced features of the Hangor-class submarines, he said their cutting-edge weaponry and sensors would play a vital role in maintaining regional power equilibrium and ensuring maritime stability.
He also praised the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC) for its dedication and expressed satisfaction over the project’s steady progress. The Hangor-class submarine initiative, he added, reflects the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
Under an agreement signed between Islamabad and CSOC, Pakistan is set to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines. Four are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) program.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking representatives from the Pakistan Navy, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, and CSOC.
