LAHORE: Punjab’s Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique has directed authorities to take all possible steps to ensure the convenience of citizens during the upcoming Eid holidays, while reviewing cleanliness arrangements under the province’s Suthra Punjab Programme.
The directions were issued during a meeting chaired by the minister to assess preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Asia Gul, and Director General of the Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din attended the meeting and briefed the minister on the progress of the initiative.
Officials reviewed sanitation plans on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with a focus on maintaining cleanliness during the Eid holidays across the province.
Rafique directed the Director General of the Suthra Punjab Authority to prepare district-wise operational plans, adding that control rooms should be established in every district to monitor sanitation activities during Eid-ul-Fitr.
“All possible steps will be taken for the convenience of citizens,” the minister said, emphasizing that public complaints must be addressed promptly and that complaint data should be uploaded to the official monitoring dashboard without delay.
He noted that the government is further strengthening the digital mechanism for complaint redressal, warning that strict action would be taken against contractors if repeated complaints are received from the same area.
Rafique said the Punjab chief minister has provided all necessary resources for the Suthra Punjab initiative. “Alhamdulillah, the programme has so far met the expectations of both the public and the chief minister. The entire team must continue working with the same commitment,” he added.
The minister also said that with the establishment of the Suthra Punjab Authority, monitoring at the tehsil level would become more effective.
During the meeting, officials also decided to review the monitoring system in light of the increase in the number of union councils under the evolving local government framework.
Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian directed the DG Suthra Punjab to conduct field visits across different areas and ensure that remote regions receive the same attention as major urban centres.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the government’s Waste to Value Programme, aimed at improving waste management and promoting environmentally sustainable solutions across Punjab.
