LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari has said that the protection of women remains the first priority and a clear red line for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing that the provincial government is committed to ensuring safety and justice for women across the province.
In a statement issued on Friday, Bokhari said the crime rate in Punjab has declined significantly, while the overall law-and-order situation has improved due to the government’s effective policies and strategy.
She said the reduction in crime is the result of the targeted measures taken by the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. According to the minister, the Crime Control Department (CCD) and the Punjab Police have played a crucial role in curbing criminal activity across the province.
“Due to their effective performance, even routine street crimes have noticeably declined in several districts,” Bokhari said.
The minister added that, in view of growing public confidence and appreciation for the CCD’s performance, the chief minister has decided to upgrade the Crime Control Department into a premier crime-fighting agency to further strengthen action against criminal elements.
Bokhari said the latest law-and-order indicators and crime statistics in Punjab are encouraging and reflect the government’s commitment to improving governance and public safety.
She stressed that no one in Punjab would be allowed to target women, adding that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to harm “any mother, sister or daughter.”
The minister also said that all officers and personnel of the Punjab Police have been directed to maintain a courteous and respectful attitude towards citizens, addressing them with respectful terms such as “Sir” and “Janab” in order to strengthen trust between the police and the public.
