Vatican City, March 16, 2026 – The head of the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV, has voiced deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the United States. He has appealed to all parties to declare an immediate ceasefire and return to negotiations.
In his address, Pope Leo XIV said, “It is essential to stop the cycle of violence immediately because war only leads to destruction and human loss.”
The Pope urged world leaders to take practical steps to reduce tensions and choose the diplomatic path. According to him, “Negotiations are the only way that can lay the foundation for sustainable peace in the region.”
He also stressed that ordinary civilians suffer the most as a result of war. “We must think about the millions of people who are victims of fear and uncertainty due to this conflict,” he added.
This appeal comes at a time when military operations continue in the Middle East and regional stability faces serious threats. The Vatican’s call for peace sends a strong message to the international community.
