Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, has stated that Moscow is ready to supply discounted crude oil to Pakistan, urging Islamabad to make a formal approach to take advantage of the opportunity.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Ambassador Khorev said: “We are ready to sell oil to Pakistan. Pakistan can benefit from the current situation. If Pakistan reaches out, we will provide cheap oil.”
He emphasized that the energy sector remains a key pillar of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Russia. The offer comes as global oil markets face disruption from escalating Middle East tensions, including Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a vital route for oil shipments — following recent military actions involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
Russia has previously supplied discounted crude to Pakistan starting in 2023, helping ease fuel import costs for the cash-strapped nation. The ambassador’s renewed proposal highlights Russia’s interest in expanding energy ties amid ongoing geopolitical shifts.
No immediate official response has been issued from Pakistani authorities, but analysts view this as a potential relief measure for Pakistan’s energy security and economy amid rising international fuel prices.
The White House and other stakeholders have not commented on the development.
