DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan — Two volunteers were killed and one injured on Wednesday when a vehicle from the security escort of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Asjad Mahmood skidded off the CPEC Motorway near Wanda Yarak in Dera Ismail Khan district.
According to police officials, the vehicle lost control due to slippery road conditions and plunged off the motorway. Maulana Asjad Mahmood, son of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, was travelling in a separate vehicle and escaped the accident unharmed.
The injured volunteer was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is reported to be under medical observation. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The incident has drawn attention to road safety concerns along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
