LAHORE: Amir of Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has proposed the inclusion of Iran and Turkey in the existing defence cooperation framework between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, calling for broader regional collaboration.
Addressing a gathering in Lahore, he emphasized the need to reassess regional alliances, stating that understanding the dynamics of “friends and adversaries” is essential in the current geopolitical environment.
Referring to the ongoing war situation globally, he said it has significantly impacted the international economy. In this context, he urged the government to immediately initiate work on the long-delayed Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project to address the country’s energy needs.
Speaking on economic challenges, Hafiz Naeem criticized current policies, saying the national economy cannot be sustained through “deception and artificial measures.” He added that despite policy shifts towards solar energy, the public has not experienced any meaningful relief.
Highlighting the energy crisis, he warned that Pakistan’s oil reserves are sufficient for only 28 days. He further noted that petrol prices have increased by Rs 55 per litre, while the petroleum levy continues to burden citizens as an additional tax on fuel consumption.
Calling for urgent reforms, he stressed the need for transparent economic policies and practical steps to provide relief to the public amid rising inflation and energy shortages.
