Islamabad (Special Correspondent) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that petrol and diesel prices will remain unchanged in Pakistan for the current review period.
Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister revealed that he was advised to increase petrol prices by Rs95 per litre and diesel by Rs203 per litre, but he outright rejected the proposal.
He stated that the federal government has decided to bear an additional burden of Rs56 billion this week to shield the public from further inflation.
“Today, the actual price of petrol should have been Rs544 per litre, but the government is providing it to you at only Rs322 per litre. Similarly, diesel should have cost Rs790 per litre, yet it is being supplied at Rs335 per litre,” PM Sharif said.
Emphasizing his priorities, he added: “For me, there is nothing more important than the economic protection of the people. While petrol prices have doubled across the world, the Pakistani government has successfully prevented this storm of inflation from reaching the common man.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted diplomatic efforts for peace in the region, saying Pakistan is working successfully on two fronts and striving to save the region and friendly countries from the devastation of war.
This decision comes amid surging global oil prices triggered by tensions in the Middle East, providing much-needed relief to Pakistani citizens ahead of Eid celebrations.
