Islamabad/Karachi, March 27, 2026: Pakistan has decided to expand the capacity of its ports as part of major initiatives aimed at transforming the country into a regional transshipment hub.
Officials say the move is intended to boost international trade and strengthen Pakistan’s logistics infrastructure, enabling it to play a more prominent role in regional commerce.
According to official data, Karachi Port recently handled 8,000 incoming containers, while 3,500 containers were dispatched, reflecting increased port activity.
Meanwhile, the National Logistics Corporation has reduced scanning charges by 50 percent to facilitate trade and lower operational costs for businesses.
Experts believe that expanding port capacity and reducing logistics costs could position Pakistan as a key trade corridor in the region, contributing positively to the national economy.
